ExWoSt expert assessment

Published: 20/10/2015

The research project “Urban redensification and climate change” investigates solutions to bring urban redensification in line with climate change mitigation. Against the background of an increasing impact of climate change especially in urban areas, the appropriate dimension of urban density comes into question.

Based on 20 case studies the effects of urban redensification on the local micro climate were analysed and a more climate friendly urban development practice identified. The study provides insights into current restrictions and challenges as well as recommendations regarding the eligibility of concrete measures for the various types of urban areas.
