Renewable Energy Sources Act 2009

Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) 2009 requires improved integration of wind turbines in the grid

Final report on a consultation project commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety

The amendment to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) requires that the connection of newly installed onshore wind turbines to the national grid and the tariffs for the generated electricity will be subject to the fulfilment of specific technical requirements in regard to grid integration.

On behalf of the German Government, Ecofys has drawn up proposals for these technical requirements and estimated the additional costs relative to the existing connection practice. Ecofys was supported by six recognised expert appraisers from the wind and grid industries and chaired several consultations with wind turbine manufacturers and grid operators. The technical requirements drawn up by Ecofys provide the basis for a technical ordinance, which will be developed by the German Government subsequent to the EEG amendment.
