New Energy for growing communities

The cRRescendo sustainable building project

Published: 25/11/2014

cRRescendo is the largest sustainable building project that has been supported by the CONCERTO programme of the European Union. As its name puts forward, cRRescendo (Combined Rational and Renewable Energy Strategies in Cities for Existing and New Dwellings and Optimal quality of life) suggests a paradigm shift in urban development.

Stretching across four European cities, the project shows how the municipalities Almere (NL), Milton Keynes (UK), Ajaccio (Corsica, FR) and Viladecans (ES) have made a significant step towards zero-carbon communities. The cRRescendo book describes not only the technical design and implementation of the sustainable communities but also the challenges on the way due to the bureaucratic hurdle and the impact of economic recession. It explains the drivers of success within a large and complex project with a total duration of seven years spread across a variety of geographic locations and national partners.
