Development of a NAMA proposal

Self-supply renewable energy (SSRE) in Chile

Published: 12/11/2013

This document presents a proposal for a NAMA in “self-supply energy systems based on non-conventional renewable energy” in Chile. The proposal was developed by Ecofys and Fundación Chile financed by the International Climate Initiative of the German government through the Mitigation Momentum project. The development of the proposal was undertaken in a consultative process involving key governmental, private sector and civil society stakeholders building on existing knowledge and initiatives in the sector as well as the government’s immediate and longer-term policy and development objectives.

The main counterpart in Chile was the Renewable Energy Centre (CER) Chile, as part of the Chilean government’s economic development agency (CORFO) and implementing agency of the Energy Ministry, and the Ministry of Environment as the national focal point for NAMAs in Chile. The NAMA proposal has been submitted to the UNFCCC NAMA Registry and to the British German NAMA Finance Facility to seek international support for implementation.

Update: The NAMA's financing has been announced during COP19 in Warsaw. Watch below webcast of main author Frauke Röser who informed on the development pathway in a webinar:
