UNEP Inquiry Performance Measurement Framework

Ecofys prepares a report for the UNEP Inquiry on measuring progress in aligning the financial systems with sustainable development outcomes. The Inquiry is mandated to advance policy options to improve the effectiveness of the world’s financial systems in mobilising capital towards a green and inclusive economy – in other words, sustainable development.

In 2015, UNEP Inquiry published its synthesis report The Financial system we need. Ecofys and UNEP Inquiry are building on this report by establishing a performance framework that provides an initial, quantitative basis for measuring the sustainability alignment of financial systems in 20 countries and to map out how this assessment can be improved over time. The performance framework contains an initial set of 24 indicators covering financial system governance, market behaviour and sustainable financial flows. This can be used to analyse financial systems in a systematic way to derive possible levers for change.
