Comparison of industrial electricity prices

Together with Fraunhofer ISI, Ecofys analysed the impact of different power price components on the final power price companies are facing. We used country specific privilege criteria for taxes and levies as well as distribution and transmission cost components. Calculations are based on publicly available information and data on taxes, fees, surcharges and conditions for industrial installations for the years 2012 and 2013.

In a short summary, results are shown for two different cases: a large and a medium-sized energy-intensive company. Prices and their components are shown for Germany, the Netherlands, UK and France. Also, estimations are given for Pennsylvania and Texas. Looking at Europe, prices in France are lowest for big and medium-sized industrial customers. The highest prices were found in the UK. European prices in total are significantly higher than electricity prices in the US-American market areas.
