Distributed renewable energy market study China

The World Bank – International Finance Corporation (IFC) commissioned Ecofys to review China’s emerging distributed energy market and the potentially important role it can play in contributing towards the country’s medium-term energy and carbon intensity reduction targets. Together with the Chinese Natural Gas Association and the Chinese Renewable Energy Industry Association, Ecofys provided a distributed energy market study to support IFC in developing its strategy for the sector. The profiles of successful distributed energy projects were studied and policies were summarised. The project team also analysed finance gaps and identified potential partners for IFC. Ecofys recommended IFC to carefully screen projects together with technical experts before financing them and to take the policy situation (e.g. existence of government subsidies) into account when selecting appropriate regions and projects to finance.
