The Climate Action Tracker

The "Climate Action Tracker" is an independent science-based assessment, which tracks the emission reduction commitments and actions of countries. The website provides an up-to-date assessment of individual national pledges to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

Under the Paris Agreement, countries have submitted their emissions reduction commitments as (Intended) Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs). A crucial question is whether the individual national reduction commitments will be sufficient to ensure that global emissions remain below the 2°C and 1.5°C limits specified in the Paris Agreement. Ecofys, a Navigant company, Climate Analytics and New Climate Institute run a webpage known as “The Climate Action Tracker”.

Since 2009, the Climate Action Tracker has provided an up-to-date assessment of official emission reduction pledges of countries, an evaluation of their stringency as well as an overview of the aggregate effects on global emissions. It aims to make emission reduction pledges transparent and to encourage countries to increase their level of ambition. In addition, the Climate Action Tracker tracks the progress that countries make towards achieving their commitments.
