Ecofys, a Navigant company, led the visit of a high-level delegation of German power system experts to the UAE last week. Meeting in the context of the bilateral Emirati-German Energy Partnership, the energy experts discussed the transformation of UAE energy sector. The focus of meetings lay on electricity market design, cooperation between grid operators and the integration of variable renewables. With its 2050 Energy Plan, the UAE is pursuing ambitious targets for the reform of its energy sector: the country aims to increase the share of renewables in the energy mix to 44% by 2050.

The expert tour was a joint activity of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the UAE Ministry for Energy and Industry (MOEI) and was supported by the German-Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce. The goal of the Emirati-German Energy Partnership is to promote practical exchange between the two countries in the areas of renewable energies, energy efficiency, electricity sector development and e-mobility and sustainable transport. Ecofys, together with its partners, supports the cooperation through mutual high-level delegation visits, expert workshops, industry roundtables and other formats that create a platform for exchange between representatives of government, business and research from both countries.
