Ecofys, a Navigant company, supported McDonald’s in developing a corporate climate target which was announced by McDonald’s in New York today. The targets were approved by the Science Based Targets initiative.

The global restaurant company announced that it commits to partnering with its franchisees to reduce absolute greenhouse gas emissions related to McDonald’s restaurants and offices by 36% by 2030 from a 2015 base year. McDonald’s also commits to a 31% reduction in emissions intensity (per metric ton of food and packaging) across its supply chains by 2030 from 2015 levels.

The targets were presented by the McDonald’s Executive Team at a meeting involving the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) at the World Economic Forum, with Matthew Banks, Associate Director in Navigant’s Global Energy Practice, being present as well.

Navigant believes McDonald’s commitment will inspire franchisees, suppliers, and others to follow its lead.
