Since 1995 the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in the Netherlands associates
her name with sustainable housing development. After a succesful series
of projects WWF decided to take the idea one step further. WWF and
the Netherlands Organistion for Energy and the Environment (Novem)
took the initiative to develop a quality mark for sustainable building:
the so-called SolarHouse.

The SolarHouse quality mark
is based on a Program of Requirements, that besides some environment
related requirements (insulation, renewable energy, FSC certified
wood) also pays attention to the level of comfort of the houses.
For example, specific requirements are set for entry of daylight
and temperature levels.
Ecofys was involved in several
WWF-house and SolarHouse projects. In these projects Ecofys was
responsible for:
- Formulating the Program of Requirements
- Advising architects in the design phase
- Verification of the technical requirements during and at the
end of the contruction phase
- Providing information to architects, building companies, installers
and occupants
- Communication and PR
