ENECO
Energie chooses online solar energy monitoring solution
Ecofys has finalised an agreement with the
energy company ENECO Energie to monitor the utility’s photovoltaic
solar energy (PV) systems with the internet-based Sundial solution.
Sundial is the first product of its kind in the Netherlands and
eliminates the need to purchase comparatively expensive hardware
to monitor the performance of small to medium-sized PV-systems.

ENECO will use Sundial initially for its PV customer base in Amersfoort
Nieuwland - one of the world’s largest residential PV projects
- with the possibility of expanding service throughout the Netherlands.
In addition to identifying malfunctions early and thereby optimising
the amount of electricity generated, ENECO will be able to use Sundial
to understand the performance of its PV systems on a national level.
Sundial
Owners of small to medium-sized PV-systems face an interesting challenge
when trying to establish the performance of their systems. Until
recently, monitoring solutions required a substantial investment
in hardware and software. In most cases, the investment would reach
a significant percentage of the actual system cost and outweigh
the gains that could be realised by identifying and correcting system
malfunctions. With the introduction of Sundial, owners of PV-systems
can monitor the performance and operation of their PV-systems with
nothing more than a simple kWh meter and Internet access.
On the Sundial site, customers can compare the performance of their
system with expected energy yields calculated from hourly measured
meteorological data, a unique feature in the Netherlands.

Sundial versions are also being developed for other EU countries.
