WWF Climate Savers support to manufacturer

Since 2009, Ecofys provides ongoing environmental consulting services to a multinational manufacturing company. Starting point was our ground breaking technical support to prepare the client for a Climate Savers agreement with WWF. In this first assignment, our carbon footprinting and transport experts:

  • Validated the carbon footprint
  • Defined the overall calculation approach for GHG emission reductions
  • Helped setting fuel efficiency and carbon emission targets
  • Carried out a competitor benchmark
  • and facilitated negotiations with WWF

As a result in 2010, the company became the world’s first manufacturer of its kind to join Climate Savers and therewith leading the way towards a low-carbon transport sector.

In 2011, Ecofys continued its services by broadening the existing Climate Savers agreement through integration of further production divisions. Thanks to improved fuel efficiency, the total amount of CO2 emitted by trucks, construction equipment and buses manufactured through 2014, will be reduced by more than 30 million tons, compared to 2008. The client will also reduce CO2 emissions from its production plants by 12% (0.2 million tons) by 2014, compared to 2008.

In 2012 and 2013, Ecofys carried out intermediary verifications of the carbon reductions achieved so far. Activities included energy and emission data collection (including energy bills, test reports and simulations) as well as an on-site audit by Ecofys experts. Ecofys is proud to help maintain carbon transparency and ensure a high level of accountability, which are in fact the cornerstones of the Climate Savers programme.

WWF’s Climate Savers Programme is a global leadership platform which positions multinational corporations at the forefront of the low-carbon economy. Since the launch of WWF Climate Savers programme in 1999, over 30 leading companies have entered in a Climate Savers agreement with WWF.
