The Climate Action Tracker

The "Climate Action Tracker" is an independent science-based assessment, which tracks the emission reduction commitments and actions of countries. The website provides an up-to-date assessment of individual national pledges to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

Within the negotiations on an international post-2012 climate agreement, countries are putting proposals on the table about how much they intend to reduce their emissions in the future. A crucial question is whether the individual national pledges will be sufficient to ensure that global emissions remain within the 2°C limit. Ecofys, Climate Analytics and New Climate Institute run a webpage known as “The Climate Action Tracker”. Since 2009, the Climate Action Tracker provides an up-to-date assessment of official emission reduction pledges of countries, an evaluation of their stringency as well as an overview of the aggregate effects on global emissions. It aims to make emission reduction pledges transparent and to encourage countries to increase their level of ambition.
