Developing a pilot Emissions Trading Scheme in Tianjin

Under a technical assistance (TA) grant from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Ecofys is assisting Tianjin Climate Exchange, the lead agency for the project, with the design of Tianjin's pilot Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). Ecofys will also support the commissioning and development of the trading platform and registry with SFW Ltd (a world leader in the delivery of IT tools for Emissions trading) providing the functional specifications for the systems. The Chinese government plans to launch a national carbon market by 2015 utilising experiences gained from developing seven regional pilot schemes (Beijing, Chongqing, Guangdong, Hubei, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Tianjin). The project will provide valuable experience to guide the future development of the national trading scheme, which aims to help China meet its target of reducing the carbon intensity of its economy by 40 to 45 percent below 2005 levels by 2020.
