Ecofys competing for National Public Champion in the European Business Awards

Public voting has started

Utrecht, The Netherlands, 18 January 2016 – Ecofys will compete for the title of ‘National Public Champion’ for the Netherlands in this year’s European Business Awards, as the public vote opens for the first time.

The consultancy, already named as one of the National Champions in the independently judged part of the competition, has posted a video of its company online at www.businessawardseurope.com giving a powerful insight into the story of their business and its success.

Ecofys is listed in the category of innovation and hopes to secure the award for its work on a new methodology to set corporate emission reduction targets in line with climate science. The methodology had been developed as part of the Science Based Targets initiative of CDP, UN Global Compact, WRI and WWF.

The novelty of Ecofys’ approach is that it looks at the specific opportunities per sector rather than applying one generic solution for all industries. The metrics are ground-breaking as they allow companies to bring their reduction targets in line with what is needed to limit global warming to 2°C. Keeping the global temperature rise below 2°C is essential to avert dangerous climate change and preserve our planet for future generations.

Competing against all other National Champions for the public vote, the company with the most votes will be named ‘National Public Champion’ for the Netherlands on 7 March 2016. The first phase of the online voting is open from 11 January to 26 February 2016.

The second public vote will see all of the National Public Champions from 32 different countries compete against each other to become the overall European Public Champion. The voting for this takes place between 7 March and 26 April 2016, and the result will be announced at the European Business Awards Gala event in June 2016.

The European Business Awards, sponsored by RSM, was created to recognise and promote business success and support the development of a stronger business community throughout Europe.
