Joop Oude Lohuis (1960) graduated from the University of Groningen in Chemistry and Environmental Sciences. He started his career at Gasunie, the major trader and transport company in the Netherlands, before returning to science. In 1990 he joined the Dutch Ministry of Environment for six years where he helped to prepare and implement major steps in national and EU climate policy, such as the taxation on carbon and energy content for gas and electricity. From 2000 to 2010 he worked for the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, advising government leaders on a global level on climate change, land use and energy policy. At Ecofys Joop Oude Lohuis’ main responsibilities include the built environment, transport and small industry. When not working, he loves long distance cycling, skating and enjoys playing bridge and singing.
