Ecofys transfers Wave Rotor technology to IHC Merwede

Published: 06/06/2012

Ecofys has sold its Wave Rotor technology to IHC Merwede, global market leader for efficient dredging and mining vessels and equipment. The technology is a patented innovation from Ecofys that has been developed over the past ten years  and successfully demonstrated in a 30kW pilot plant in the Dutch estuary Westerschelde. In contrast to most tidal turbines, the Wave Rotor is a vertically oriented turbine. This converts power from tidal currents and wave motion directly into electricity.

In transferring this innovative technology, Ecofys enables IHC Merwede to launch a fully integrated system to generate electricity by using tidal energy . The market for tidal and wave technology is relatively young, but IHC Merwede foresees a significant growth of activities in both Europe, North America as well as in Asia. Ecofys expects the Wave Rotor technology to have a big impact on the world and thus contribute to its overall mission: sustainable energy for everyone.
