He joined Ecofys in 2008 and carries a background in chemicals and chemical process engineering. His main areas of expertise are industrial energy efficiency, industrial low carbon innovation, and industry competitiveness. Working mostly for multinational manufacturing corporates and European industry associations, he has developed expertise in the business drivers for low carbon transition. As an example, carbon pricing policies are an important part of such drivers in which Martijn has vast experience. Projects he has recently been involved in include impact assessments of carbon emission costs, (renewable) energy procurement and development strategies and low carbon business model development.

Martijn holds an MSc in Chemistry from Utrecht University. In 2000, he joined Heineken where he gained hands-on production management, supply chain and brewing technology experience in breweries in Kinshasa (Congo), in Den Bosch (the Netherlands) and Zoeterwoude (being the largest brewing facility in Europe). In 2004, Martijn joined AkzoNobel Catalysts (currently Albemarle Catalysts) and worked as a process engineer in its Amsterdam based hydro processing catalysts manufacture facility. Process optimization and mid-term project management were primary responsibilities.
