Markus Offermann has a background of a physicist and about 20 years of expertise in the energy and building technology sector. Before joining Ecofys in 2007, he collected eight years practical experiences at the R&D unit of Schmidt Reuter, one of the leading German technical building engineering offices. There he was involved in the concept design and realization of a variety of outstanding projects designed by famous architects like Foster + Partners or Renzo Piano. With his core expertise in the field of integrative and sustainable energy concepts for new buildings as well as for ambitious refurbishment – special foci to mention: air-conditioning, heatpumps and system optimization – he is an experienced project leader of national and international research projects. Among his projects a lot are directly or indirectly related to the European Building Performance Directive (EPBD) with topics like cost optimality and impacts of energy saving measures for setting adequate building standards e.g. the 2020 update of the German "Energieeinsparverodnung" (EnEV). As Associate Director at Ecofys, he is responsible to insure the quality of the building related works at Ecofys.
