Carbon Capture & Storage

Carbon Capture and Storage separates CO₂ from energy conversion processes. The captured CO₂ is transported to a geological storage site, such as an empty gas field or an aquifer, where it is stored in secure reservoirs. Application of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) provides the world’s society the opportunity to develop and deploy renewables in a cost-effective way while emissions of CO₂ are being controlled.

CCS is an emerging technology with a number of demonstration projects ongoing and many more projects planned. Successful implementation of CCS in our economy requires thorough understanding of technological, environmental, legal, and economic implications. It is essential to understand the role of CCS in moving towards a sustainable energy system.
