Angélica Afanador is an energy and climate change specialist with a strong blend of engineering and international climate policy credentials. She has 10 years of experience in multi-sectoral development, energy and climate change in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe. At Ecofys, Angélica focuses on projects that support the design and evaluation of climate change policies and low carbon solutions, the design of Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs), and the development of project ideas that advance the transition to a low carbon future with inclusive green growth. Throughout her career, Angélica has gained experience in working with government officials of developing countries towards formulating solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation that fit national contexts. She convenes and leads stakeholder consultations and is experienced in engaging with global partnership programs fostering the transition to renewable energy, energy efficiency and low carbon development.
Prior to joining Ecofys, Angélica worked in international organizations, non-governmental institutions, and academia. From 2008 to 2015 she worked at the United Nations Environment Programme and the World Bank. Throughout these periods, she supported ministries of energy and environment of developing countries in designing climate change mitigation and adaptation policies in the energy, water and biodiversity sectors. Angélica holds a Master of Environmental Management from Yale University (USA) and a Bachelors of Environmental Engineering from Escuela de Ingeniería de Antioquia (Colombia). She is a native Spanish speaker, fluent in English, with basic skills in French and Portuguese.
