Thermal insulation in Europe

For European Insulation Manufacturers Association (EURIMA), we assessed technical solutions and policy options in relation to building insulation and their impacts (energy savings, CO2 savings, investments and job effects) for the EU-15 and Eastern Europe. This included a market analysis and calculations performed with the Ecofys Built Environment Analysis Model (BEAM).

The various aspects of the thermal insulation market (environmental and economic impacts, new EU Member States, new price developments), which we studied were published by EURIMA in seven reports.

Area of expertise

Market assessment, calculations of saving potentials, transferring results into concrete policy recommendations

Based on our assessments, EURIMA has contributed to ongoing discussions about revising the Energy Performance Building Directive (EPBD), indicating the considerable cost-effective energy savings potential of thermal insulation in buildings. In April 2009 the European Parliament voted in favour of the new EPBD proposal, which clarifies and simplifies existing provisions, extends the scope of the Directive, and strengthens its provisions.
