Ecofys helps companies comply with carbon monitoring and reporting guidelines
Introduces CarMon, the carbon monitoring and reporting tool
Since 1 January 2005 the European Emission Trading Scheme has come into force. Under this scheme, companies are obliged to monitor and report their carbon emissions to the authorities. At the same time, they need to know what their current position is in order to make sound decisions. Ecofys has developed CarMon™, a monitoring and reporting tool that will help companies fulfil their legal obligations, provide monitoring management information and facilitate decision-making on all levels within the organisation.
Compliance
CarMon is a web based software tool that is designed to fulfil the monitoring and reporting requirements in the EU monitoring guidelines. The product consists of a database in which data on relevant installations are stored; these include allowances, forecasts, periodic CO2-emission data (including associated accuracy levels), and transactions. CarMon uses this data to generate the required emission monitoring report, which is easy to use for verification.
In addition, the software is designed to aggregate and report emission information on different levels, thus making it possible to monitor and manage emissions for multiple sites and in multinational organisations.
Economic value
Jan-Willem Bode, international manager Corporate Carbon Solutions: “With carbon emission reductions having an economic value, some companies want to go beyond compliance in order to hedge risks or even make a profit. For these pro-active companies, CarMon is the perfect tool as well. It provides management information about the company’s position, making it easy for executives to decide whether to take on-site reduction measures, buy CO2-credits or sell excess allowances”.
