Ecofys enters South American market with new partnership in Chile
In Chile, Ecofys International BV (Ecofys) has taken a majority share in Valgesta S.A. The new company will be named EcofysValgesta and will focus on profitable solutions to ensure a sustainable energy supply for everyone. At the same time EcofysValgesta will be able to provide an excellent basis for servicing the wider South American markets.
Ecofys, founded in the Netherlands in 1984, specialises in energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions. Valgesta, founded in 2000, is a specialized energy advisory firm, based in Santiago, Chile. The new company, EcofysValgesta, will combine Ecofys’ extensive experience in European sustainable energy markets and Valgesta’s proven track record and local expertise in the Chilean energy market.
“Latin America’s energy market is booming, with many opportunities for sustainable energy projects”, says Ramon Galaz, Managing Director of EcofysValgesta. “The energy market in Chile, for example, is highly dependant on the gas supply from Argentina. This gas supply was almost completely shut down about 2 years ago, causing electricity prices to explode. Chile needs to make more use of its own sustainable energy sources, and we can help with this.”
Richard van den Broek, managing director of Ecofys International adds: “Ecofys and Valgesta are a natural fit. EcofysValgesta now has access to our 350 international experts on sustainable energy, on top of its knowledge of the Chilean energy market. It is a strategic first step for Ecofys into the large energy market of Latin America”.
