Ecofys
helps Danish Broadcasting Corporation design leading edge Eco-building
Ecofys will provide expertise to the design
teams of the new headquarters for the Danish Broadcasting Corporation.
The EU-subsidised project, called IT-ECO, aims at demonstrating
intelligent ECO-solutions for IT-heavy office buildings. Ecofys
will help implement the largest and probably most publicly exposed
photovoltaic plant in Denmark.
IT-heavy
office building
Danish Broadcast Corporation (DR) will move and merge all activities
of DR in the greater Copenhagen region to a new headquarters in
Orestad close to Copenhagen city centre. Approximately 3000 people
will work at the new DR Byen location, which will include offices,
studios and a concert hall. It is expected that 150000 people will
visit the buildings yearly resulting in an enormous public exposure
of the eco-buildings.
The office buildings will make extensive use of IT-systems and are
characterised by a need for cooling year round and very high levels
of electricity consumption. The overall goals of the IT-ECO project
are to reduce the electricity consumption, heating consumption and
CO2 emissions, as well as to integrate renewable energy sources
and to increase the quality of the working climate.
Mr. Hendriks of the EU: ”It is expected that the project will
contribute significantly to the further adoption of the solutions
in office buildings. A positive demonstration will lead the way
for 80% savings in CO2 emissions for cooling and 50% for heating
in offices”.
Intelligent
ECO-solutions
In order to realise the leading edge sustainable building complex
the project focuses on three technologies. First of all the buildings
will use an innovative hybrid cooling system with natural cooling
and an underground seasonal cold storage system. This hybrid cooling
system will be the first of its kind in Denmark. Additionally different
types of double-envelope glass facades and atria will interact with
climate control systems. This will allow intelligent regulation
of ventilation, heating, cooling and acoustics. And thirdly a photovoltaic
(PV) plant of up to 1200 m2 will be integrated in the buildings.
This PV-plant will have installed power of 120 kWp. Ecofys is responsible
for advising the design team and for testing, commissioning and
monitoring the PV-system.
Consortium
The consortium is led by COWI A/S (Denmark) and includes Danish
Broadcast Corporation (Denmark), DS-Plan (Germany) and Ecofys (The
Netherlands).
