Greenhouse gas (GHG) emission inventories are increasingly implemented at a national, organizational, plant or product level. This may be done for a number of reasons, including meeting legal requirements under emissions trading schemes, demonstrating progress towards voluntary commitments, communicating environmental performance to the public or to internally evaluate risk exposure.
 |
Carbon footprint analyses are used to establish GHG emission profiles across the value chain of companies and to design CO2-neutral products and services.
For both environmental and economic reasons, emission inventories and profiles must be transparent, consistent and credible.

We have extensive experience of emission inventories in both the compliance market (the Kyoto Protocol system, including CDM/JI, EU ETS) and the voluntary carbon market. We have set the standard in a number of these areas, e.g. by developing mandatory EU monitoring and reporting guidelines as well as high-quality standards for CDM/JI and voluntary credits. Our experience with these as well as other approaches allows us to develop tailor-made systems on the basis of clients’ specifications and needs. Our knowledge of sources of CO2 and non-CO2 emissions, as well as sinks (forests and geological storage) ensures a complete, coherent and consistent approach to emission inventories and profiles.
Our services include:
- Recommendations on achieving conformity of an organisation’s or a country’s GHG reporting system with international, national or other reporting standards
- Developing and implementing GHG emission inventories for all mandatory and voluntary schemes
- Evaluation, validation and/or verification of emission-reporting systems and reports for mandatory and voluntary schemes
- Advice on the relevant communication aspects of an inventory: what are stakeholder expectations and how should the inventory evolve in time?
- Capacity building and training.
